SPEAK OUT to End Breast Cancer: An Introduction to NBCC Advocacy |
| | | | | | SPEAK OUT to End Breast Cancer is an introductory seminar specially designed for breast cancer advocates new to the unique brand of grassroots public policy and research advocacy National Breast Cancer Coalition has pioneered. Join us for a few short hours to learn how effective advocacy can help to end breast cancer. Locations to be determined for 2010. Why SPEAK OUT with NBCC? NBCC empowers women and men to speak up—and out—about the political, scientific and health care issues that affect their lives. NBCC’s grassroots advocacy increased federal funding for breast cancer research by more than $2 billion, created a system of health care for underserved women and launched innovative educational programs for advocates everywhere. The National Breast Cancer Coalition will empower, equip and enable you to be the most effective breast cancer advocate you can be: - NBCC will empower you with training on the legislative process, the nuts and bolts of Congress, the science of breast cancer and other key subjects to help you find your voice as a breast cancer advocate.
- NBCC will equip you with strategic priorities targeting critical issues in breast cancer research, prevention and cure to share with your elected official.
- NBCC will enable you by facilitating in-person meetings with your elected officials on our annual Lobby Day.
BREAST CANCER IS A POLITICAL ISSUE: the government is the only body with access to the amount of money needed to perform the appropriate research, testing and clinical trials to develop new treatments, explore cause and effect leading to prevention and find cures; and the legislative power to ensure every woman diagnosed gets access to the care she needs. In short, sustained and significant government involvement is the only way we’ll end this disease. AWARENESS OF THE DISEASE AND "EARLY DETECTION" IS NO LONGER ENOUGH—individual influence can and must be brought to bear on elected officials to engage them in NBCC’s mission to eradicate breast cancer and to pressure them to commit the funds necessary to cure this disease. Constituents are the most compelling source of influence on elected officials. It is every citizen’s right and responsibility to advocate for issues they believe in to their elected officials. | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
