Call to Action Online - March 2015

We're less than two months away from the 2015 Advocate
Leadership Summit!

This year, we reached an important milestone: the halfway point of Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®. We could not have gotten to where we are today—working on a breast cancer vaccine; lobbying for the passage of the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act—without your selfless energy and dedication. Five years from now, we can be celebrating an even more extraordinary milestone: knowing how to end breast cancer, once and for all.

To get there, we need you at the 2015 Advocate Leadership Summit. There is no better place to get re-energized and re-focused on the priorities that will take us all the way to the end of breast cancer. You cannot afford to miss this year’s lineup.

In our plenary sessions, explore the path an idea takes to become a drug and learn the truth about immunology. Hear from perennial favorites like Dr. Susan Love, who will discuss the role data and intellectual property rights play in ending breast cancer, and Dr. H. Kim Lyerly, who will update us on the status of DCIS research. And discover the best community engagement practices to take home in our new community forum!

We will end the Summit as we always do with our annual Lobby Day, where you will be able to put all of your new knowledge to good use. This year’s Lobby Day is critical, as we have a new Congress to educate on Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®.

If you haven’t already, become a Deadline 2020 Champion and fundraise your way to this pivotal event. More details and registration for the 2015 Advocate Leadership Summit can be found online.

Groundbreaking community forum to debut in Georgia

Midway through Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®, we need to increase the conversation around ending breast cancer. To do so, we are ushering in a new era of community engagement this month with Deadline 2020: Georgia Talks About Ending Breast Cancer. This action-based community forum will be co-hosted by the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition in Atlanta on March 21. It will reflect NBCC’s commitment to collaborating with all breast cancer stakeholders by bringing together everyone from patient advocates to public officials. Representative John Lewis (D-GA) is planning to attend.

The custom event will feature presentations on three main subject areas: breast cancer facts versus myths; the Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® blueprint; and advocacy, access and influence in breast cancer. After each presentation, attendees will participate in polling activities and small group discussions that will identify important actions and themes. The forum will end with a real-time report given to all participants to help make further change in breast cancer in their communities.

This is the first of three such forums we hope to lead across the country this year. Advocates who attend the 2015 Advocate Leadership Summit will also participate in this new and exciting model. Add your voice to this vital conversation by registering for the Atlanta forum today. If you are not from the area, please share the event with your networks, and keep an eye out for a forum near you in the future!
