Join NBCC May 19 – June 16, 2020, for our Advocate Leadership Summit! Now Virtual
There is nothing else like an NBCC Summit. So when the coronavirus pandemic hit, we knew we needed to pivot from our original In-Person Summit plans to the now-Virtual Summit to ensure that dedicated advocate leaders across the country could still come together, safely, and advance their knowledge and skills. Although we are going virtual this year, the 2020 Summit will continue NBCC’s long history of providing exceptional programming.
You’ll learn more about the science and research of breast cancer and explore the complicated political climate in which we advocate for policy change. 2020 Summit participants will find many opportunities to interact with other advocates, researchers, and NBCC staff, including a virtual party where we will celebrate with our newest advocates and our long-standing supporters.
In a series of live webcasts hosted over four weeks, you will participate in dynamic, interactive sessions with world-experts in breast cancer research, advocacy, and policy where you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions. And don’t worry if you can’t attend every live session; the videos will be archived for all registrants to view later On Demand.
The program culminates on June 16, when participants put their new skills and knowledge to use during NBCC’s Virtual Lobby Day.

NBCC in the News
NBCC President Fran Visco was recently interviewed for an article in The Cancer Letter, “As treatments get cancelled because of COVID-19, patients worry about adequacy of care”, which ran on April 17, 2020. The article discusses how in the effort to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, oncologists are adjusting treatment protocols and either limiting or canceling treatment plans.
“Everyone, everywhere has a great deal of anxiety, given the pandemic, but it’s certainly particularly exacerbated in people with a life-threatening disease who are facing the possibility of changes in their treatment protocols and delays in their treatment,” Visco said.
NBCC is concerned about the impact of treatment delays on the breast cancer community. The article details the results of an early survey conducted by NBCC in late March, in which 19% of respondents indicated that they had experienced challenges in accessing care, including postponed or canceled radiation and chemotherapy treatments, diagnostic testing, and surgeries.
NBCC is now conducting an ongoing survey to continuously monitor the impact of the pandemic on breast cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers. Click here to take the survey. Please share this survey with your network and the breast cancer community.
