National Breast Cancer Coalition

2017 Priorities Input Request

The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) Board of Directors will establish NBCC's 2017 Legislative and Public Policy Priorities during the January board meeting.  We are seeking your input on priorities NBCC should advocate for in 2017.

As you know, in 2010, NBCC set a deadline and developed a strategic plan to know how to end breast cancer by 2020. The plan focuses on primary prevention, stopping women and men from getting breast cancer, and understanding and preventing metastasis (the spread of cancer), which is responsible for 90% of breast cancer deaths.  Recommendations for 2017 should take into account how the proposed priority moves our plan towards meeting the overall goal of Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®—knowing how to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020.

NBCC chooses its priorities through the following process: issues are brought to the attention of NBCC; NBCC staff researches the issue, and prepares background information for officers, staff and board; the board discusses all suggested priorities at the board meeting and votes on those NBCC will adopt, and votes on the order of priorities adopted.

As a reminder, NBCC always has chosen those priorities that will have a major impact on breast cancer.  The issues must be overarching and cannot address a narrow issue. Please send us your suggestions including any background information, AND WHY YOU BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE AN NBCC PRIORITY and falls within the parameters of Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®, by close of business Thursday, January 19th.  For your information, we are providing a summary of the 2016 priorities.

We look forward to your input into this very important process.
