Grassroots Action Needed for DOD BCRP

Urgent Action!    Urgent Action!    Urgent Action!

Urge your Representative to Support the
 DOD Breast Cancer Research Program

Deadline for Letter Signing: March 31st

This year’s House of Representatives letter in support of level funding for the Department of Defense (DOD) peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) has begun circulating. The deadline for signing is Friday, March 31st. Our grassroots supporters must take immediate action to urge their Representative to sign the letter!

It is a very busy and hectic time on Capitol Hill and Members are being flooded with calls on many different issues. You and all members of your networks need to contact your Representatives and urge them to show their support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter.  This listing identifies the Representatives who signed last year’s letter and they all should be contacted and urged to sign again. These are the key targets from your state. If there is no one listed from your state, you and your networks should reach out to all your Representatives and deliver the message below.

Your message to your Representative is:

I urge you to show your support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter to Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Granger and Ranking Member Visclosky calling for level funding—$120 million—for the DOD peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program for FY 2018.

In order to maintain funding for the DOD BCRP, money must be appropriated by Congress.  The first step in this process is for the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee to appropriate funding.  Representatives King (R-NY), McGovern (D-MA), Costello (R-PA) and Hastings (D-FL) are circulating a Dear Colleague Letter, asking House Members to sign a letter to the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee leadership, supporting level funding for the DOD BCRP.

The action you are taking will let your Representatives know how important the DOD BCRP is to breast cancer research. If a Representative has questions you can’t answer, let us know and we’ll follow-up.

If your Representative agrees to sign the letter, her/his staff should email one of the following staffers of the letter sponsors to make it happen:

Charity Hartley in Representative Hastings’ office
William Hibbs in Representative Costello’s office
Mike Cusher in Representative McGovern’s office

Email us at NBCC and let us know that your Representative has agreed to sign the letter or if you have any questions.
