NBCC’s 2022 Legislative and Public Policy Priorities

NBCC has made a real difference in public policy over its long history. From the DOD peer reviewed breast cancer research program, to policies that expand access to care, to making certain an educated advocate voice is at the table, NBCC has led the way. Our success depends upon our grassroots network and our advocate leadership. Each year NBCC’s Board of Directors looks carefully at current issues in breast cancer, responds to issues raised by our members and evaluates how to address our mission. Following that process, the Board approved our 2022 Legislative and Public Policy Priorities in late January.

NBCC focuses its work on issues that will have a significant impact on breast cancer and those that are broad in scope and focused on changing systems of breast cancer research and access to care. Our 2022 legislative and public policy priorities are as follows:

Legislative Priorities

  1. Level funding ($150 million) for the Department of Defense (DOD) Peer-Reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) for FY2023
  2. Passage of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act (S.1312/H.R.3183)
  3. Preservation of the Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program

Public Policy Priorities

  1. Guaranteed access to quality care for all
  2. Access to affordable and effective therapies
  3. Ensure the participation of educated patient advocates in science, research and all levels of health care decision-making
