Advocate Spotlight: Running to End Breast Cancer

For Dr. David Laurance, fighting cancer is personal. He was introduced to NBCC through his mother, an NBCC donor who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer.

“When I asked her what she would like me to raise money for… she said we could do more for more people with the National Breast Cancer Coalition,” David said.

Since then, he has run with the cause – literally. David completed his 46th New York City Marathon and is gearing up for his 47th marathon at 73-years-old. Every year since 2007, he has been raising money for NBCC through the marathon and has raised over $15,000.

“I am certainly an advocate,” he said.

As a peer-to-peer fundraiser, David uses a number of strategies to meet his goals. In his position as a podiatrist, he talks to patients about fundraising for NBCC and how they can support NBCC’s work directly. He rallies family and friends by sharing stories about the impact of NBCC’s work to end breast cancer.

Like David, you can make a powerful impact, but you don’t have to run a marathon, you can create your own fundraiser. Rally your family, friends, and coworkers to take action with you. Be part of the movement taking immediate action in response to cuts to research and access to care. Every dollar you raise will power the advocacy that drives real change.

Don’t be on the sidelines – Join the fight to end breast cancer. We need you.
