NBCC Supports Access to Quality Health Care Legislation

On June 25, NBCC sent a letter to the House of Representatives and on July 7 to the Senate supporting H.R. 1425, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act. The legislation will, among other things, strengthen and expand upon the Affordable Care Act (ACA), shore up the Medicaid program, and lower prescription drug prices to the benefit of all Americans. A top priority of NBCC is ensuring access to quality, evidence-based health care. In 2010, NBCC endorsed and advocated for the passage and implementation of ACA, which marked a significant step toward access to quality health care for individuals with, and at risk of breast cancer. The ACA has saved the lives of those barred from coverage due to a preexisting condition or repeated bouts of cancer.

Nineteen New House Cosponsors for H.R. 2178, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act

Nineteen new House members have joined as cosponsors of NBCC’s priority legislation, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act (H.R. 2178), bringing the total to 156 bipartisan cosponsors. This is a significant accomplishment for our relentless advocates who met with more than 170 congressional offices during NBCC’s Virtual Lobby Day on June 16. If your member of Congress has not yet cosponsored, please contact them today and urge them to sign on. A current list of cosponsors can be found here.

NBCC is continuing outreach to the Senate on the companion bill, S. 1374. A current list of Senate cosponsors is available here. If your Senator is not on the list, please contact them and urge them to sign on.

Tell us your NBCC Advocacy Story

NBCC Advocates are fierce! Through training, education, and networking, NBCC Advocates influence policy on both the local and national levels, push for access to healthcare for all, and support research that will end breast cancer. We are laser-focused on the day when breast cancer is over and done. Impossible? We don’t think so.

We are part of NBCC for a reason, and that reason is different for each of you. You may be a survivor or the family member of someone who has breast cancer or has lost their life to breast cancer. Or, another reason entirely. We need your stories. Why are you an NBCC advocate? We want to share your advocacy story with others so they, too, can become a catalyst in our fight to end breast cancer. Let them know it is not only possible to change the world, but that each one of us can help make that happen.
