NBCC Letter to Nancy Pelosi on Her Reelection

January 8, 2021

The Honorable Nancy Pelosi
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

I write on behalf of the National Breast Cancer Coalition to congratulate you for your reelection as Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 117th Congress. There is no one better suited to that leadership position than you at this point in history. I also wish to express how deeply shocked NBCC and its advocates are by the shameful attack on our democracy on January 6 and how much your leadership helped us get through it.

As you are well aware, since NBCC’s founding in 1991, our mission has been to end breast cancer through the power of action and advocacy. You have been with us every step of the way, not just by supporting our agenda but by showing true leadership in helping us achieve our goals. While many believe that there is much progress in breast cancer, you understand the disease’s reality and the continuing loss of life from it. NBCC’s positions often challenge business as usual, yet you have never hesitated to advance our policies. Your commitment helped us increase federal funding for breast cancer research, monitor that spending, expand access to quality healthcare for all, and ensure that trained advocates influence all decision making that affects breast cancer. Your leadership and commitment to individuals living with and at risk for breast cancer have generated billions of new dollars for breast cancer research and created new research models that bring us closer to achieving our mission. You have been an unequivocal champion of high-quality healthcare for all Americans (which has been NBCC’s highest priority since its inception.) You worked with us to create the first-ever system of access to care for thousands of low-income women with breast and cervical cancer.

NBCC knows that your proven and effective leadership, your strength, and vision are needed at this time, more than ever. We stand ready to work with you and the entire Congress to end breast cancer and are proud to call you Speaker of the House.

Sincerely,
Fran Visco
President
