 | | Congressional Award Honoree Sen. Sherrod Brown (OH) with advocates. | Imagine hundreds of breast cancer activists blanketing the halls of Congress, with unity in purpose on a single very special and important day. That is the scene that replays every spring when the National Breast Cancer Coalition mobilizes its grassroots for the Annual NBCC Washington Lobby Day. Every year, NBCC's Washington Lobby Day grows bigger and better. NBCC advocates spend an entire day on Capitol Hill conducting and participating in more than 400 meetings with members of Congress and congressional staff! Activists from nearly every state and the District of Columbia present, discuss and then press their Senators and Representatives to support and become an advocate for the NBCC legislative and public policy agenda. International attendees accompany delegations to study and gain hands on experience with NBCC's brand of advocacy. | | Sen. Susan Collins (ME) discusses policy with NBCC advocates on Lobby Day. | Rep. Gwen Moore (WI) discusses policy with NBCC advocates on Lobby Day. | Lobby Day is preceded by our Annual Advocacy Training Conference during which a number of sessions are held to help participants prepare for their meetings with Senators and Representatives. Detailed briefings update advocates on the Coalition's current public policy agenda. A special meeting time and space is set aside for individual state delegation meetings, allowing state delegation leaders to organize their state Lobby Day participants and review the state strategy and meeting schedule. Lobby Day culminates with a Congressional Awards Reception where members of Congress are recognized and thanked by NBCC and grassroots advocates for their outstanding leadership in the fight to end breast cancer. | | |
