The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) applauds the bipartisan House vote today to advance legislation to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits. Extending the credits will prevent millions of Americans from experiencing dramatically increased premiums, copays, and deductibles. Now, the Senate must follow suit and stand up for Americans’ access to health care by approving a clean three-year extension.
NBCC is a collaboration of activists, survivors, researchers, policymakers, grassroots groups and national organizations that have come together as disruptive innovators for social change. We link hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of individuals from across the country into a dynamic, diverse coalition giving breast cancer a meaningful voice in Washington, DC, and state capitals; in laboratories and health care institutions; and in local communities everywhere.
NBCC’s mission is to end breast cancer through bold action and advocacy. Access to quality health care has been a fundamental policy priority for our organization since its inception.
We know that unless Congress acts to extend these credits, many people will not be able to afford health insurance. Many have already seen their premium payments more than double. And many will become uninsured and go without regular checkups, cancer treatments, and follow-up care—care that can extend and save their lives.
Breast cancer patients’ lives depend on access to quality care. We now urge the Senate to take action and approve a clean, three-year extension of the tax credits without delay.
