NBCC calls on the breast cancer advocacy community to act immediately on a dire threat to the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program (DOD BCRP), a vital research program with overwhelming bipartisan Congressional support since NBCC helped found it in 1992.
The DOD BCRP has been at the forefront of innovative progress toward ending breast cancer, providing crucial research dollars to hundreds of institutions and researchers nationwide and driving proven breakthroughs that save lives.
Congress must pass the appropriations bill that will let this program continue. NBCC is deeply alarmed that Congress instead could pass a long-term continuing resolution for government funding, instead of the long-overdue Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations bills that have been negotiated for months. The DOD BCRP has been funded through this appropriation bill for decades, and Congress has never before forced our vast Defense agencies to operate on temporary funding for the long term.
Should Congress default on its duty to properly fund the Department of Defense and the BCRP for the current fiscal year, decades of progress will be undone, our vital research community will suffer, and women and men with breast cancer will pay the price.
It is quick and simple to take action today that will have long term impact on breast cancer treatments.
I am a breast cancer advocate with the National Breast Cancer Coalition and a constituent.
I urge you to pass a Defense Appropriations Bill before the March 14 funding deadline.
Subjecting defense appropriations to yet another temporary funding bill will undo decades of progress from the landmark DOD Breast Cancer Research Program, a vital program that enjoys overwhelming bipartisan support.
Please pass the Defense Appropriations Bill without delay! Thank you.
Thank you for helping to protect this crucial research program.
